Led by tournament MVP D'Carlos Hayes, Male took home the Derek Smith Shootout title over 7th region rival Eastern 68-66 on Saturday. The Bulldogs went undefeated in the tournament and handed the Eagles their only loss of the week.

Male jumped out to an early lead, went up by 14 at the half and stretched it out to 17 points early in the 2nd half. But the Eagles stormed back, using a full court press and some late Male turnovers to cut lead down to 2. The clock ran out after an Eastern basket cut the score to 68-66.

Kevin Glenn had 15 points and Tony Horn chipped in with 12 for Male. The Bulldogs were actually missing one of their better players, OJ Bell, who was attending a football event instead. Remy Abell led Eastern with 24 points.

Both teams are expected to be in the Top 10 of the state starting next season.
