TOP STORIESChristian Academy takes Game 1 of semi-state09:49 PM EDT on Wednesday, June 4, 2008(WHAS11) - It was a thrilling matchup at Male High School between Christian Academy and Central Hardin in the first game of a three game Kentucky baseball semi-state series. Based on record it’s hard to believe the Centurions (17-17 coming in) even belong here, but Wednesday night they proved they aren’t just happy to be in the tournament, they’re here to win it.
The Burins jumped out to an early 2-zero lead on Eric Stein’s 2-run homerun in the first. But in the bottom half Christian Academy’s Merritt Mowery game them the lead with a three run blast to left off starter Joe Nash. The Centurions extended their lead to 4-2 but two costly errors in the 5th and a Jeremy Barr sac fly gave the Bruins the lead back at 5-4.
It was 6-4 going into the bottom of the 7th when the Centurions mounted a comeback. Andy Wood hit a 2-run double with two outs, and Tim Anderson added an RBI single to lead the Centurions to a 7-6 victory.
Game two is Thursday night at 6:00 at Male High School.
