TOP STORIESNo. 1's remain unchanged in week devoid of upsets09:58 AM CST on Tuesday, November 4, 2008For the second week in a row there were no changes at the top of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association prep polls, with West Monroe, Eunice, Parkview Baptist, Curtis and South Plaquemines maintaining their leads in their respective classifications.

Curtis remained No. 1 in the 2A poll after the win while St. James stayed No. 7. In 5A, both Brother Martin and Rummel moved up a spot after St. Thomas More lost for the second time this season, setting up a showdown between the No. 6 Crusaders and No. 7 Red Raiders on Saturday morning. And Thibodaux moved into the top classification's poll after improving to 7-0. The Tigers have allowed 33 points all season and have pitched three shutouts.
Higgins fell out of the 5A poll after its upset loss to West Jefferson, while Destrehan continues to trail West Monroe by four votes at the top.
Bastrop continues to cut points away from No. 1 Eunice in 4A, pulling to within two points this week. Helen Cox fell three spots to No. 8 after losing to Belle Chasse 48-40.
The 3A poll remained unchanged except for No. 10 where Rayville took over Winnfield, which was shutout 27-0 Friday night by Caldwell.
In 2A, Curtis remained No. 1 after holding off St. James 17-14 in Vacherie. The Wildcats, despite the loss, remained No. 7 in the poll. Newman, also in District 10-2A, received a vote this week.
South Plaquemines maintained a 10-point lead in the 1A poll after improving to 7-1. Kentwood remains the only three-loss team in the 1A poll, coming in at No. 8.
Statewide high school football rankings compiled by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. First-place votes are in parenthesis, followed by record, points and previous week's ranking.
