Staff BlogLatest entry: Pick 'em Week 6: River Parish clash sets tone for big week Pick up any schedule for this week's games and your eyes immediately dart to one game: Destrehan at Hahnville in a 5A showdown. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. There are results to be tallied, and looky here, it appears the Sports producers at WWL-TV are trying to make this interesting. Not to mention Professor, who after taking the first week off, has come back with a vengeance. And then there's Web director Tom Planchet and Sports Reporter Juan Kincaid. Are they just waiting to explode on the scene this week? Soccer Freak is not too far behind the leaders and Chad is, well, hanging in there. (Click for complete results, Week 6 picks) Brother Martin enters LSWA poll at No. 10 It has finally happened. After weeks of pummeling opponents with a stifling defense and a power run game feating Dalton Hilliard, Brother Martin has entered the Class 5A poll at No. 10. But the Crusaders are only four votes ahead of Rummel for the spot. Also in 5A, Destrehan remains No. 3 with three first-place votes despite hammering previous No. 4 Ehret on Friday night. The Patriots fell to No. 6. Meanwhile, in 1A, South Plaquemines reclaimed the top spot after a week hiatus. The Hurricanes, I would imagine, will remain there unless they beat themselves. Destrehan win pushes Wildcats to brink of No. 1 The latest power ratings are out and Destrehan's big win over Ehret pushed the Wildcats up from ninth to No. 2. That's solid and, if the season were to end today, would put Destrehan on the opposite side of the bracket from Acadiana, the team that is No. 1 right now. And that's big, because that's a matchup I'd like to see in the Superdome come the second weekend of December. OK, I'm getting ahead of myself there. Also of note - Brother Martin continues its march up the charts. The Crusaders are now No. 7, moving from No. 16 a week ago.
