The biggest thing about week 2 so far is that it has my appetite whetted for Curtis-Salmen next week. Sure, the Spartans were expected to win their first two and they have, but they are a very good team and will be a rare test for Curtis prior to the postseason. Thibodaux's big win over Destrehan has them marked as a team to beat in 5A, while Brother Martin has done nothing to dispel its spot as a 5A favorite, perhaps a Catholic League team that could make a run at the Superdome? And congrats to the Lusher Lions on their first win as a full time varsity squad, shutting out Pine. Okay, so nothing should REALLY be a surprise in prep football's first week. South Plaquemines and Belle Chasse were supposed to have a classic - and they did. Karr looks like it will be a force again this year. Curis - same old, same old. Brother Martin also looked very impressive, while Holy Cross did not. But there were some head turners. It wasn't so much that Franklinton beat Amite, but the score, that stood out. West St. John knocked off St. James with a nice rally, Hahnville served notice, Destrehan survived and Shaw showed that the Catholic League may well have some old-school type of competition.
