GAME OF THE WEEKSouthridge meets Oregon City in second round03:00 PM PST on Thursday, February 26, 2009When it comes to girls high school hoops in Oregon, only two schools should come to mind. Oregon City and Southridge, and that's it. No offense to everyone else, but those two schools have earned it.

The fifth ranked Skyhawks have won the last four state titles. The latest coming last March, when they beat Oregon City. But before that it was all Pioneers. Does 10 championships in 13 years qualify as a dynasty? Qualify? That defines dynasty. I'm surprised they didn't just name the trophy after them, and hold the tournament for second place. Three of those championships came with the title "USA Today National Champions." The top seeded Pioneers are poised to put their name back on the trophy. Oregon City is 12-0 in league play, and 20-2 overall. They got a first round bye, and will host Southridge Friday in the second round of the playoffs. Its going to have a championship game feel, just about three rounds too early. The Skyhawks blew a chance at a title rematch against Oregon City, by not taking care of business in the Metro League. Jesuit took the top honors, and is seeded on the other half of the bracket. So we'll have to settle for this. One of the most anticipated second round games in Oregon high school girls basketball history. |
