TOP STORIESSheldon rolls over Grant for championship berth08:35 PM PST on Friday, November 30, 2007PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Sophomore quarterback Jordan Johnson passed for 320 yards and three touchdowns, and caught an option pass from another score, to lead Sheldon to a 41-21 victory over Grant in the semifinals of the OSAA 6A football playoffs Friday night.
The loss spoiled a big game by Grant quarterback Andre Broadous, who rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns. He also passed for 165 yards, but threw two costly interceptions in the second half. Broadous also fumbled the ball away twice in the first quarter. The first of those turnovers led to Johnson's receiving touchdown, which came on a 22-yard option pass from Cameron Abeene and gave the Irish a 21-7 lead with 1:44 left in the opening period. The Irish (12-1) added another score just halftime, on a 43-yard pass from Johnson to running back Zach Todd, which pushed Sheldon's margin to 28-7. The Generals (10-2) climbed back into the game in the third quarter, when Broadous ran for two scores to trim the deficit to 28-21. After forcing a Sheldon punt, Grant had a chance to tie the game. But Anthony Yakovich intercepted Broadous and Sheldon scored two plays later when sophomore tight end Curtis White slipped behind the secondary and scored on a 59-yard pass from Johnson. Following a three-and-out series by the Generals, Sheldon scored again, this time on a 24-yard run by Todd with 57 seconds left in the third quarter. For the game, Johnson completed 22 of 27 passes. Todd caught seven of those passes for 119 yards. For the latest scores, standings and rankings of your favorite school, check out OregonPrepSports.net |
