In what might have been the most tightly contested game of the season, Jesuit started fast, opening up a 14-0 halftime lead on a long run by standout RB Raphael Lambert and a punt return for score.
But Southridge battled back with three straight second-half TD's to move ahead 21-14. Kellen Mastrud passed for one score and ran for another to lead the rally. Then Jesuit tied the score on its final possession in regulation, 21-21, forcing overtime. Southridge got the ball first in OT and Kirk Werhane tallied his second rushing TD of the game to put Sothridge up 28-21. Then it was Jesuit's turn. The Crusaders' Scott Williams connected with Lambert for the potentially tying score, but the extra point attempt missed, giving Southridge (6-3) the 28-21 win over Jesuit (7-2). Southridge will now face Central Catholic in the first round of the prep playoffs. Jesuit is scheduled to play Canby. |
