The 2007 Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year picked right up where he left off last year as he struck out 20 and allowed one hit in a 9-0 victory over Barrington last week. Westmoreland also contributed to the Patriots' run production with three hits, including a solo homer, four RBI and three runs scored.

The Quakers senior delivered one of the most spectacular goaltending performances ever seen in an Interscholastic League playoff game as he stopped 68 Mount St. Charles shots before the undefeated Mounties finally posted a 5-4 overtime victory Friday night in the opening game of a best of three Division I semifinal series.

The senior guard captured MVP honors in the girls Division I game of the Credit Union Basketball Championships as her 17 points and 6 rebounds led the Lady Rams to a 59-54 victory over previously undefeated Bay View in the tournament's title game.

Jake Rinn, Toll Gate
The senior goaltender stopped 35 shots Friday night leading the Titans to a 2-2 tie with undefeated Mount St. Charles on the final weekend of the Interscholastic League Division I regular season. It was the second time this season that Rinn helped Toll Gate hold Mount St. Charles to a tie.

The Falcons junior won his third consecutive state indivdiual title and led Cranston West to its third consecutive state team title as he captured the 125-pound class at the Interscholsatic League's State Wrestling Championships on Sunday.

The Classical senior was the individual star of the state girls track meet on Sunday as she won both the 55-meter run and the 55-meter hurdles, finished second in the 300-meter run and was a member of the Purple's championship 4 x 200 meter relay team.

The senior All-Stater scored 12 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, picked-off eight steals and blocked two shots as she led Bay View to a 50-42 victory over La Salle on Saturday in the only regular season meeting between the two teams who played in last year's Division I girls state title game.

Victoria Flowers, Classical
Flowers captured two gold medals – one with a record-setting throw - at the 26th annual Brown Track & Field Invitational last Friday. The Classical senior, who is the defending national champion in the 20-pound weight throw, took first in that event with a national-record toss of 61-feet, 3/4-inches that surpasses the previous mark of 60-10.5 set in 1997 by Idaho ’s Maureen Griffin. Flowers also won the shot put at the Brown meet with a toss of 43-6.25.

Jerell Gomes, Feinstein
Last week was a busy one for Jerell Gomes, as the 6-foot-4 guard helped the undefeated Feinstein boys basketball team post two Division II victories. On Tuesday, the senior recorded his 1,000th career point in a victory over Westerly, recording 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists in the 61-51 decision. Three nights later, Gomes then scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, to go along with his 10 boards, 8 assists and 2 steals in the Falcons’ 71-58 win over Barrington.

The Mt. Hope senior goaltender turned aside 20 shots as she led the Huskies to a 2-1 victory over La Salle in the title game of the Interscholastic League MetLife Division I girls state tournament last Friday night. The performance earned MacDougall tournament MVP honors.

The Rams senior set a course record on the 5,000 meter layout at Ponaganset High on Sunday as she captured the individual state title and led La Salle to its first girls state cross country team championship with a winning time of 18:14.56.

Josh Barrette, Warwick Vets
Barrette's 29-yard field goal with four seconds to play gave Warwick a 21-18 victory over Mt. Hope Friday night and kept the Hurricanes undefeated in Division II competiton. The game-winner kick was Barrette's second field goal in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars senior became only the fourth player in the history of the R.I. Interscholastic League girls tennis tournament to win three state singles titles as she captured her third title in four years with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Mount St. Charles Melissa Ferry in the title match on Sunday.

The Mounties senior, who plays at the No. 2 spot in the Mount's regular season singles lineup, earned a berth in Sunday's title match of the state singles tourney with upset victories over the two of the top three Division I seeded players in quarterfinal and semifinal matches last weekend.

Jacob LaBelle, Chariho
LaBelle only scored one goal last week, but it was one of the biggest tallies of the boys soccer season so far. The first half tally by the Chargers junior proved to be the game's only goal as Chariho upset nationally ranked La Salle, 1-0, in a Division I match last Thursday at La Salle.

The 5-8, 165-pound senior running back scored three touchdowns, rushed for over 100 yards and intercepted a pass as he led Hendricken to a 41-6 victory over defending state champion East Providence in the opening Division I game of the season for both teams last Friday night.

The North Kingstown senior scored one goal and assisted on the other two tallies as North Kingstown ended Barrington's two-year undefeated Field Hockey string with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles last week. Whaley scored the game's first goal then assisted on two second-half tallies as the Skippers broke away from a 1-1 halftime deadlock.
