Baseball All-StatesChris King11:40 AM EDT on Friday, July 3, 2009 Last season King was the young sophomore catcher playing in the shadows of senior All-Staters Ryan Westmoreland and John Pedrotty, but this season he moved into the spotlight. Named the Outstanding Player in Division I-East, he hit .486 with 34 hits in 70 plate appearances, including 19 extra-base hits. His performance helped the Patriots, who lost several key players from last year’s Division I-East regular season championship team, capture another regular-season title with a 15-3 record. He led the Patriots in runs scored and runs batted in with 32 and 31, respectively. He also did an outstanding job behind the plate handling an inexperienced Portsmouth pitching staff. More About Chris Another high school athlete I admire: Chris Costantino My favorite pro sports team: Boston Red Sox Favorite achievement of the past school year: Winning the Division I East championship What I'll be doing this summer: Playing lots of baseball in New England and Georgia My plans for next year: Continue to work on my academics, my game, and prepare for college |
