Baseball All-StatesKevin Carey11:00 AM EDT on Friday, July 3, 2009 Carey was undefeated on the mound against Division I competition with a 7-0 record, including two big playoff victories. In the second round of the playoffs he tossed a one-hitter against Woonsocket as he retired 21 straight batters after giving up the hit to the leadoff hitter. Later in the tournament he helped the Rebels earn a trip to McCoy Stadium when he held Cranston West hitless for five innings, leading the Rebels to an eventual 5-4 victory in the loser’s bracket game of the Division I Final Four. Overall this season he gave up only 23 hits to the 191 batters he faced. He finished the season with a 1.06 E.R.A., allowing only eight earned runs in eight starts.
