Baseball All-StatesMatt Clarkin05:26 PM EDT on Sunday, July 5, 2009 Clarkin's bat and play at second base helped a relatively inexperienced Cranston West team reach the Final Four of the Division I state tournament for the fourth consecutive year. He led the Falcons in almost every offensive category with a .431 batting average, .514 on-base percentage, 32 runs scored and 31 hits. He also had 12 stolen bases and only struck out five times in 72 plate appearances. His defensive play also was a key to the success of a Cranston West team that relied on keeping the score of the game low. He only made seven errors on the 72 defensive chances he had, for a .911 fielding percentage.
