Baseball All-StatesBrent Hopkins09:26 AM EDT on Monday, June 30, 2008 Selected as the division's Outstanding Player by the Division I-North coaches, Hopkins played a major role in La Salle reaching the title round of the Division I state tournament with his performance at the plate and at shortstop. He saved the Rams from falling into the loser's bracket in their first game of the regional playoff tournament when his two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning gave La Salle a 6-5 victory over Cranston East. That game-winning blast was one of four home runs Hopkins hit this season. Overall he had 23 hits in 65 appearances, including 13 hits in 29 trips to the plate in the playoffs. He finished the season with a .615 on-base percentage. He will attend the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the fall.
