Boys Basketball All-StatesJerell Gomes06:00 PM EDT on Saturday, April 19, 2008 Considered by many Interscholastic League coaches and fans to be the best all-around player in the league, Gomes, the only first-team All-State selection from last season to repeat this year, was a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the court every time he stepped on the floor. Gomes averaged 25 points, 7.7 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game this season in helping lead Feinstein to a 13-3 regular season record in Division II-Central. Despite an impressive performance in the quarterfinals of the playoffs, when he torched West Warwick's defense for 28 points, the Wizards upset the Falcons, 76-70. Gomes went on to score a game-high 28 points in the Rhode Island Boys Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game that featured the top players in the Interscholastic League. More About Jerell Favorite TV show: "Family Guy" Favorite subject in school: Math My plans after high school: Undecided. Most likely prep school. Depends on how AAU season goes with college offers. What I'd buy tomorrow, if money were no object: A huge million-dollar house for my mom, myself and daughter somewhere. Also my close friends to keep them away from drama. Something people would be surprised to know about me: That I was an MVP tennis player when I was younger and have the trophy to prove it. |
