Selected the Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year this season for his dominating play on the court and his hard work in the classroom, Watkins powered Classical, the only Interscholastic League team to complete a perfect season this year, to an 18-0 regular-season record and the Division II state title by averaging 20 points and 19 rebounds per contest. Watkins scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the Purple's 62-51 victory over Narragansett before putting on a memorable semifinal performance when he scored 27 points with 15 rebounds to lead Classical past Rogers, 61-54. Foul trouble, coupled with a tough West Warwick defense, limited Watkins to six points in the state championship game, but Classical still managed to win, 71-62.
