Cross Country All-StatesJenna Riley02:30 PM EST on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 Despite dealing with Osgood-Schlatter Disease as well as a stress fracture in her leg, Riley worked her way back to the point that she not only was able to compete in her first full season of cross country, but also run well enough to be crowned the individual state champion. After helping Coventry go undefeated in dual-meet competition and secure the Suburban Division title in the process, the senior won the Class A Championship in 18:41.22, pacing the Oakers to a runner-up finish. Riley then won the state meet in 18:38.44, with her performance helping her team to third place. In addition, she was the top Rhode Island girl at a number of major meets, including the New Balance Ocean State Invitational (fourth in 18:53.92) and the Brown University Northeast Cross Country Championship (sixth in 17:57), both at Goddard Park, the Thetford Invitational in Vt. (third in 20:12) and the New England Championship, where she was 15th overall in 18:58. |
