Lacrosse All-StatesGiulia Basile06:00 PM EDT on Monday, June 23, 2008 East Greenwich doubled its victories and advanced to the Division I semifinals this season, and Basile played a major role in that success. One of the top scorers in the league, the junior -– who was also named a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American -- tallied 38 goals, including four in the Avengers' 10-9 semifinal loss to Barrington. "There is no one on our team that works harder than Giulia," Avengers coach Judy Davis said of her co-captain, who earned second-team All-State honors last spring. "She is there before practice often working by herself or helping other players with all aspects of their games. While she is an attack-wing and the primary focus is on offense, she has a huge presence on defense, running the field at both ends. Her speed and great stickwork are her greatest assets. She always has her eyes open looking for the best opportunity to score or create a play for her teammates."
