Lacrosse All-StatesZoe Katzen06:00 PM EDT on Monday, June 23, 2008 While her teammates were scoring at the other end of the field, Katzen was doing a tremendous job keeping opponents from finding the back of Moses Brown's net. The senior defender for the Division I state champion Quakers committed just 16 turnovers this spring, while racking up 37 caused turnovers. The co-captain, who received an All-American Honorable Mention, was also third on the team with 52 ground balls. "Zoe has started since her sophomore year and she has always been a leader on defense," said coach Jeanne Carhart. "She always marked up against the opponent's strongest attack player, and her crease defense is really some of the best that I've seen. For the past three years, she really has been one of the big sparks for our transitions. She makes good decisions with the ball. Her caused-turnover to turnover ratio is really good, and for her entire career has had the fewest turnovers on the team." Katzen, who plans to play lacrosse at Skidmore College next year, has also excelled in the classroom. The Academic All-American was named the MVP of Moses Brown's debate team, which finished second at the state championships.
