Lacrosse All-StatesLauren O'Brien06:00 PM EDT on Monday, June 23, 2008 O'Brien has been an impact player from the moment she joined the varsity three years ago, says Moses Brown coach Jeanne Carhart. The junior brought her career point total to 107 with her 28 goals and 8 assists this season. She was second in draw controls (39), third in caused turnovers (28) and fourth in ground balls (35) for the Division I state champion Quakers. O'Brien was also a member of the Lower New England Team Five that won the Schoolgirls Mohawk Division of the U.S. Lacrosse National Tournament this spring in Baltimore. "Lauren has a very quick first step. It's almost like she has a second gear that she'll go into, and there aren't many people who can stay with it," says Carhart. "She is one of the few people that can effectively check the bottom of the stick, and that's a great thing to have. She did a lot of great things for us this year and scored a lot of key goals. She's another one who was vital in the circle. And her off-ball movement was just as important as when she did put the ball in the net. She does all the right things on attack that are opening the field up for her teammates to score."
