Lacrosse All-StatesKelsey Perkins06:00 PM EDT on Monday, June 23, 2008 As a defender, Perkins' name may not appear in the scoring summary very often, but her contributions to Barrington's success were immeasurable this season, says Eagles coach Peter Brock. Her leadership and play on a relatively inexperienced defensive unit helped Barrington give up a league-low 94 goals en route to capturing the Division I regular-season title with a 12-1 record and earning its eighth straight trip to the Division I finals. "Kelsey's greatest skill is her nuanced disruption of the flow of the attack," Brock said of Perkins, who was also earned first-team All-State field hockey honors this year. "Although she used her speed well, her effectiveness as a defender is a direct result of her mental game. She rarely gets penalties or is out of position. In addition to her defensive skills, her speed and agility always result in superior ball control."
