Lacrosse All-StatesHilary Salander06:00 PM EDT on Monday, June 23, 2008 Barrington's only returning All-Stater from the 2007 state championship team, Salander stepped right into a leadership role this season, helping the young Eagles to a first-place finish in Division I during the regular season with her division-leading 68 goals. Named to the Rhode Island Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse All-America first team, the senior center paced Barrington to its eighth consecutive appearance in the Division I championship when she scored a hat trick in the Eagles' semifinal win over East Greenwich. Salander then netted five goals in her team's 14-9 loss to Moses Brown in the title game. "As skilled a player as Hilary is, her commitment to excellence was most inspiring to the others," said Barrington coach Peter Brock. "Hilary was especially effective as a leader because she had three years of experience playing on teams with extraordinary talent. She was well aware of the level of play required to consistently win. She was always working toward that level and expected others to do the same. She cannot be replaced; next year's team will have to completely readjust." |
