Softball All-StatesStephanie Morse06:00 PM EDT on Saturday, June 21, 2008 A stress fracture didn't stop Morse from capping off her high school career with yet another outstanding season and adding a third first-team All-State selection to her collection. Named the Gatorade Rhode Island Player of the Year for a second time, the senior split the season between shortstop and catcher and was defensively solid at both positions. Morse - who earned her third All-State honor and an All-America selection in soccer last fall - led the Hurricanes once again at the plate, hitting a team-leading .525 with 20 RBI and 15 runs scored. Boasting an .847 slugging percentage, Morse hit five doubles, four triples and two home runs. "Simply put, she was once again one of the state's best hitters," said Warwick Vets coach Paul Kennedy. "She is as good of a player as I have ever coached. She has five tools, plays tremendous defense and does so many little things to help us win." |
