Swimming All-StatesElizabeth Beisel02:38 PM EDT on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 She is one of the top young swimmers in the world, so it's not surprising that Beisel dominated the Rhode Island Interscholastic League swim scene for a second straight year. At the state championship meet, the Skippers sophomore sensation not only won two individual state titles and led a pair of North Kingstown relay teams to state crowns, she also shattered a 19-year-old URI pool record in the 200-yard freestyle. The 12th-place finisher in the 200-meter backstroke at last year's World Swim Championships in Australia and a winner of four gold medals at last year's U.S. National junior championships, this winter Beisel set high school state and URI pool records in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle with times of 54.71 and 1:47.38. She also led the North Kingstown teams to the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle titles.
