Stowers steadily progressed in the hammer this spring, then came through with her best performance on just the right day. Adding 10 feet to her personal best, the senior took first in the hammer at the Outdoor State Championships with a throw of 154 feet, 7 inches, which ranks 16th on the 2009 U.S. High School Hammer Throw Performance list. Stowers also won the hammer at the Central Divisional Championships (146-06) and placed ninth with a heave of 139-9 at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.
