Track & Field All-StatesVictoria Flowers (Weight Throw, Shot Put)06:00 PM EDT on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 It was a record-setting winter for Flowers, who kicked off her final indoor season by setting a state and national high school mark in the 20-pound weight throw (61'00.75") at the Brown Invitational. The Classical senior then shattered a 12-year-old state record in the shot put with her winning toss of 45-1/2 at the Rhody Invitational at URI. But she didn't stop there. At the R.I. Interscholastic Indoor State Championships, the Field MVP successfully defended her title in both the weight throw (57-9.25) and the shot put (46-3.75), once again breaking her own state mark in the shot. She placed third in the shot put (44-3.75) at the New England Championships, then less than a week later bettered her national weight throw record with a heave of 62-2 at the New England Invitational Weight Throw meet in Providence. Flowers -- who also posted victories in the weight throw at the New Balance Invitational (60-1.25) in New York City and the Weight-a-rama Scholastic Weight Throw meet (meet record 59-4) in Providence -- capped her final indoor season by winning both the Nike Scholastic (61-2) and National Scholastic indoor girls' 20-pound weight throw events (62-1/2) in the same weekend.
