Capista only suffered one loss at the major Rhode Island meets in the high jump and that was a second-place finish at the CCRI-Invitational -- the first major meet of the season. He won the Class A Championships title with a leap of 6 feet 4 inches, and the Suburban Division Championships crown with a jump of 5 feet 10 inches before winning the State Meet with a leap of 6 feet 2 inches.
