Onye dominated weight-throw and shot-put events all season -- going undefeated at every major Rhode Island meet. At the state meet, Onye claimed first place in the weight throw (74 feet 8½ inches) and shot put (52 feet 8½ inches) before going on to finish in fifth place at the New England Championships in the shot put (54 feet 3 inches) and third at the Nike Indoor National Championships in the weight throw (70 feet 7¼ inches).
