Wigton edged Bishop Hendricken's Kyle Ricci, 1 minute 25.67 seconds to 1:25.94, to win the state title in the 600. He also anchored North Kingstown's 4x400-meter relay team to a state championship victory. Those weren't Wigton's only major victories of the season. He won the 600 (1:27.70) at the Southern Division Championships to help North Kingstown finish in second place. He excelled in both the 600 and the 1,000 all season long and was the first runner from Rhode Island to cross the finish line at the New England Championships in the 600, placing 11th in a personal best time of 1:25.34.
