After earning a spot on the All-State second team twice last year as a member of Westerly's 2007 state runner-up indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay teams, Sylvia makes her first appearance as an individual on the All-State first team after capturing the 400 meters at the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Girls Outdoor Track State Championships with a time of 57.58. Earlier in the season, Sylvia won that event as well as the 800 meters at the Class B Championships. She also won the 400 at the Southern Division Championships and the 800 at the Schomp Invitational, and ran a leg of the Bulldogs' Class B and Southern Division champion 4x400 relay team.
