Asermelly successfully defended his discus state title this season. After winning the event at the state meet last season with a heave of 145 feet 3 inches, Asermelly won the state title this season with a toss of 143-06. He went undefeated at every major Rhode Island meet he competed in. He won the discus throw at the Rick Schomp Invitational (142-08), the Southern Division Championships (149-04), the Classical Classic (137-11) and the Class B Championships (137-08).
