After winning the 55- and 300-meter dash titles at the indoor State Track Championships, Washington entered the season hailed as the best sprinter in the state. He certainly lived up to that billing. Not only did Washington successfully defend his 200- and 400-meter dash state championships, clocking a winning time of 49.38 in the 400 and a 21.95 in the 200 at the state meet, he added the 100 meter state title to his resume. The state recorder holder in the 300 (34.77) clocked a 10.64 to win the 100, which was 0.02 seconds off the state record. Washington finished second in the 100 at the New England Championships (10.91) and third in the 200 (22.06).
