High School Sports NewsHigh school highlights: Wednesday, Nov. 401:00 AM EST on Thursday, November 5, 2009•Fifth-seeded Chariho advanced to the quarterfinals after it beat fourth-seeded Ponaganset, 3-1, in their Division I playoff game. Chariho will play Prout at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Chariho’s Mary Toth had 21 kills, 3 aces and 22 digs, Kelsea Loffredo 31 digs and Coral Holly added 25 digs in the win. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL •Third-seeded Classical downed sixth-seeded South Kingstown, 3-1, in their Division I playoff match. Classical’s Krystal Morrison had 19 kills, 5 blocks and 1 dig and Jessica Peguero had 8 kills and 2 digs. Tina Seng added 9 digs and Ashley Williams had 36 assists in the victory. The Purple will play at North Kingstown at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals. •Toll Gate swept Burrillville in straight sets in their Division I preliminary round matchup. Toll Gate’s Pattie Turner had 8 kills and 5 aces and Kelsey Howkins had 6 kills and 5 aces. Morgan Neliey added 20 assists and Sandy Malingos had 5 digs for the winners. Toll Gate advances to play East Providence in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday at East Providence. •Coventry posted a 3-0 victory over Cumberland in their Division I preliminary playoff match. Coventry’s Courtney DiBiasio had nine kills, Vanessa Equitani had four kills and three blocks and Sara Biondo had five kills in the win. Coventry will play host La Salle in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. BOYS SOCCER •Senior Servi Barrientos registered his 49th and 50th goals in Rocky Hill’s 3-0 shutout of Williams School in SENE play. Rocky Hill is 8-3-1 on the season. GIRLS SOCCER •Williams School blanked Rocky Hill, 5-0, on Emily Hamilton’s three goals and Vanessa Avalone’s two goals in their SENE match. •Libby O’Donahue scored three goals, Tara Mansur had two goals and Luany Gotay added a solo tally for St. Andrew’s in a 6-0 shutout of Hyde on Seniors Night. |
