Elia received a pass from Sean Doherty just outside the crease and tucked it in for the victory. The Rams trailed 10-7 and tied it at 10 with 1½ minutes remaining on a goal by defenseman David Porcaro. WINNERS’ CIRCLE •Michael Greene’s single in the top of the sixth inning scored Brent Elliott for the game-winning run as the Tolman baseball team edged Mount St. Charles, 6-5, in Division II. Elliott finished with three hits. •Senior catcher John Robbins had a two-run single in St. Raphael’s three-run seventh inning as the Saints beat Woonsocket, 9-6, in a Division I-North baseball game. •Ethan Babcock walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth, stole second, then third and scored on a throwing error to give the Ponaganset baseball team a 6-5 lead and went on to defeat North Smithfield in a Division II-North contest. Chris Tate went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Dan Buckley also had three hits for Ponaganset, which improved to 4-3. SPOTLIGHT •Exeter/West Greenwich pitcher Anthony Tortolano tossed a complete-game one-hitter with eight strikeouts and hit a grand slam with two outs to cap a five-run sixth inning as the Scarlet Knights defeated Wheeler, 7-1, in a Division II-East baseball game. •Zack Dulesta had a homer, two singles and five RBI in leading the Chariho baseball team to an 11-6 win over West Warwick. •Freshman Nicholas Sebastian had a three-run homer and an RBI single to lead the PCD baseball team to a 10-4 victory over Davies. •Second baseman Sam Sager went 4-for-4 (single, two doubles, triple) with four runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base to lead the Moses Brown baseball team to a 10-3 win over Coventry. •Dan Breen and Ryan MacGowan scored four goals apiece to lead the Middletown boys lacrosse team to a 14-3 victory over South Kingstown. •Jenna Berthiaume pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and added a two-run double in a four-run fifth inning as North Providence defeated Chariho, 4-0, in nonleague softball. |
