Allyson Buck, who stole second, scored the winning run when Cassie Baker hit a hard line drive that went off the shortstop’s glove. The Bulldogs tied it, 3-3, on Alyssa Greenstein’s RBI single with two outs. Heather Imperatore also had an RBI in the inning. Cumberland’s Brittany Crawford hit a two-run double to give the Clippers a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 while the Clippers fell to 3-1. WINNER’S CIRCLE •Trailing by 2-1, Kevin Okruta put North Smithfield ahead for good with a two-run single during a three-run fifth inning as the Northmen held on for a 4-3 victory over Scituate in Division II baseball. •Tiverton broke up John Kashmanian’s no-hit bid in the sixth inning and went on to score three times as the Tigers defeated Smithfield, 4-1, in Division I baseball. Mark Ventura’s two-run single highlighted the three-run sixth. Tiverton starter Philip Thornsberry went the distance, scattering seven hits and allowing one run. •Justin Bergeron scored his fourth goal of the game with 15 seconds to play and Richard Hill made 16 saves as Scituate improved to 4-1in Division II boys lacrosse with a 6-5 victory over Toll Gate. Michael Walsh had three goals for the Titans. •Eliza Foresti’s two-run double in the fifth inning was all the offense Kelly Ryan needed as she tossed a four-hit shutout in Mount St. Charles’ 2-0 victory over St. Raphael in Division I softball. Ryan finished with eight strikeouts and was 2-for-3 at the plate. St. Raphael had runners on first and third with two outs in the seventh but Mount catcher Ashley Rigano threw out the potential tying run at second base to end the game. •Woonsocket scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead, but Warwick came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and defeated the Villa Novans, 6-5, in a Division I softball game. Casey Doyle and Steph Morse each had RBI singles in the inning and Kayla Cilley followed with the game-winning RBI on a sacrifice fly. Megan Lamoureaux hit a two-run homer to give the Novans a 4-3 lead in the seventh, and Erin Boucher (4-for-4) scored Woonsocket’s fifth run. SPOTLIGHT •Bruce Altieri’s solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning snapped a 6-6 tie and proved to be the game-winner as Cumberland defeated Moses Brown, 9-6, in Division I baseball. Jeff Buress was 3-for-3 with two RBI for the Clippers. Moses Brown got a three-run homer from Graham Tyler in a six-run second inning. •John Kashmanian scored the winning run on a single by Ray Johnston in the bottom of the seventh as St. Raphael nipped Middletown, 4-3, in a Division I baseball game. •Ryan Westmoreland had 15 strikeouts and gave up only one hit as Portsmouth blanked North Providence, 4-0, in Division I North baseball. •Barrington came from behind to win three of its five matches as the Eagles defeated Hendricken, 5-2, in a matchup of Division I boys tennis powerhouses. Jeff Denunzio dropped the first set at second singles before rallying for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win. Barrington’s first doubles team of Sam Jerome and Ben Lucock came from behind to win, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, while the second doubles team of Chris Robinson and Tom Van Hentenryck rallied for a 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 victory. Barrington is 6-1 while Hendricken fell to 5-2. •Tolman swept all three doubles matches, including the decisive win at third doubles by Brian Moreau and James Meehan (6-2, 6-4), as the Tigers posted a 4-3 victory over Narragansett in a Division III boys tennis crossover. •Kelley Clancy pitched her first career no-hitter while Danielle Rizzini and Meghan Fisher supplied the offense as East Providence blanked Pilgrim, 6-0, in Division I softball. Clancy struck one nine and walked only one to improve to 3-3 for the season. Rizzini and Fisher hit back-to-back two-run singles during a four-run second inning. •With two outs in the top of the seventh, Kelsey Gammell’s double drove in Kristen Mitchell with the winning run as Bay View defeated Lincoln, 1-0, in softball. •Mickey Jusme, Didi Jusme and Victoria Flowers each won three individual events, leading Classical to girls outdoor track victories over Central Falls, Cranston West and Toll Gate. •Lincoln’s Nick Chisholm, Sam Carlson, Chris Chapian and Aaron Sabatino won the 4x1 and 4x4 relays as the Lions posted boys outdoor track victories over Smithfield, North Providence and Cranston West. Chisholm also won the 100- and 200-meter dashes. •Wheeler’s Hope Barone scored a game-high six goals, including the game-tying tally, and assisted on two other scores as the Warriors and PCD played to a 13-13 tie in an SENE girls lacrosse match. |
