Samantha Morrell, who has a scoring average of 37 over eight matches, was the medalist with a 2-over par 38. Jarred Mead and Brian Rubino each had a 39 for Prout. WINNERS’ CIRCLE •Will Sorin had the game-winning goal off an assist from Crosby Johnson with 3:43 to play as Wheeler overcame a 6-2 halftime deficit for an 8-6 victory over Mt. Hope in Division I-A boys lacrosse. Wheeler goalie John Sweriduk shut out Mt. Hope in the second half with eight saves, 12 for the game. Will Fields scored the tying goal. •Narragansett erased a 10-8 fourth-quarter deficit with two goals in the final six minutes as the Mariners held off Lincoln, 11-10, in boys lacrosse. James Creamer scored the tying goal with 6:05 to play and Brian McGreen had the game-winner with 2:30 remaining. Pat McClain had five goals for Lincoln. •Trailing 6-4 in the top of the seventh, Shea scored four times, including a go-ahead, two-run double by Eric Geisman, as the Raiders rallied for an 8-6 victory over Classical in Division II baseball. •Will Conaway rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to win his match at first singles and Jeff Denunzio won a three-hour match at second singles as the duo lifted Barrington to a 7-0 victory over Hendricken in Division I boys tennis. •Portsmouth rallied from a 6-2 halftime deficit to tie it at 8-8, but the Patriots couldn’t hang on as East Greenwich’s Anna Carr scored the winning goal, her third of the day, with 1:30 to play as the Avengers came away with a 9-8 victory in girls lacrosse. •Caitlyn Sugrue pitched a complete-game two-hitter and North Kingstown scored twice in the top of the eighth inning for a 2-0 upset over first-place Bay View in Division I softball. Bay View (11-3) remains a half-game ahead of Westerly for first place. North Kingstown is 7-6. SPOTLIGHT •A pair of state girls track records were claimed on Wednesday by sisters Didi and Micky Jusme, of Classical, at the Central Division Championships. Didi Jusme broke a 23-year-old state mark in winning the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a hand-held time of 44.6 seconds, eclipsing the hand-held 44.8 set by Middletown’s Cindy Buratti in 1985. In the triple jump, meanwhile, Micky Jusme leaped a combined winning distance of 38 feet, 9 inches (11.81 meters, in minus wind), thus shattering her own Rhode Island record of 37 feet (11.27). •Dan Alvanas shot a 1-over-par 37 as Portsmouth posted 159-208 triumph over Rogers in East Division golf at Green Valley. •Shane O’Connell had two hits including a grand slam and Chris Famiglietti went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and three RBI to lead the Cranston West baseball team to a 10-2 victory over Cranston East. •Jackson Geary pitched a four-hit compete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts and James McKinney had three hits and three RBI as South Kingstown defeated Westerly, 8-0, in a Division I-South baseball game. •Elise Fortier pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts and knocked in the only run as Coventry beat Cranston West, 1-0. |
