A-TEAM ATHLETETyee pitcher Jacob Elmore05:38 PM PDT on Saturday, September 20, 2008SEATAC, Wash. -- He's a two sport star that still manages a 3.7 GPA, making Jacob Elmore of Tyee High School the latest member of the A-Team roster. Jacob is first and foremost a pitcher who dreams one day to take the mound at Safeco Field as a Seattle Mariner. But in the fall, he puts one foot in front of the other as a member of the cross country team, mainly to keep in shape for baseball. Jacob is a three-year varsity letter winner. As a junior, he led the Seamount League in strikeouts (62), was top five in wins, batted .350 and was in the top five in stolen bases. That 3.7 GPA doesn’t come easy. Jacob is taking Advanced Placement courses and went to summer school to learn robotics and explore health careers. He already completed almost all of his high school requirements even before his senior year began, so he’ll spend some of his time this year at Highline Community College taking classes for his future career. Those classes will include statistics, physical and rehab therapy, CPR and first aid training, nutrition and personal health. Oh, and if that’s not enough to impress you, Jacob also gives back to the community, working with youth in baseball and helping his elderly neighbors with their home and garden. Do you know someone we should honor? Send in a nomination! |
