Jessie Genger Kent is a junior on the Kentwood High School volleyball team. At 5-foot 11-inches, she's a starter for the team that finished third in state. 

"I love being on a team, and having that competitiveness," she said.

She's also pretty good in the classroom, carrying a 3.85 GPA. She says thanks to her parents, she's always kept her grades up.

"It's always been in my head that academics are really important," she said. "My favorite class right now is leadership. I love classes that get me involved in the school. I love working with people and I would definitely want to be in a job where I can interact with different people."

She's played on varsity since she was a freshman. The team placed fourth in state last year and eighth at state her freshman year.

"I'll remember all the fun practices we had and the relationships … that's what' it's all about," she said.
