COACH WHO MAKES A DIFFERENCEMike Gatsos04:44 PM PDT on Saturday, October 4, 2008ORTING, Wash. -- Orting soccer coach Mike Gatsos started at the school in 1999 with just 14 girls. By 2004, he had 45 and he teaches them a lot more than just soccer. Mike Gatsos is the Christian Faith Center Coach who Makes a Difference. Gatsos says he gives his players a common goal and hopes that with good work ethics, they can accomplish that goal. He also gives his players a set or core values: -- Respect -- To be positive -- Do not give up -- Take risks -- Take responsibility -- Do not whine -- You must work harder than your opponents The philosophy appears to be working. In his tenure, Gatsos has led Orting to three appearances in the state tournament. In addition, Gatsos has his players fill out a profile explaining what they plan to do with their future, then learn to promote themselves. Gatsos says coaching soccer at Orting High is not just about teaching soccer "but to show each player what it is like to have good self esteem as well as a good work ethic. We also try to give each player a little more insight into life's values, and expectations." Do you know someone we should honor? Send in a nomination! |
