It took only a quarter for the Rams (20-6) to erase the early deficit, taking their first lead at 25-24 midway through the second quarter. But it was early in the fourth quarter when West Valley finally took control. West Valley scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter, holding Auburn (22-3) scoreless for the last minute of the third quarter and the first 3 1/2 minutes of the fourth. By the time Ryan Snowden scored with 3:30 left for Auburn, the deficit was too large for the Trojans to overcome. Borton scored 21 and Robinson had 20 for the Rams, who scored their last 10 points at the free throw line. Jeff Gouveia led Auburn, one of the pre-tournament favorites, with 18 points.
