TOP STORIESLynden's run for second straight title ends against Ephrata08:02 PM PST on Thursday, March 6, 2008TACOMA, Wash. - Senior guard Daniel Simon scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out five assists and blocked five shots to lead Ephrata to a 51-26 quarterfinal win over defending champ Lynden Thursday at the Class 2A boys state tournament. The Tigers (23-2) cruised the whole way, jumping out to a 17-4 lead early in the second quarter. They shot 47 percent from the field and made 15 of 20 free throws. The 6-foot-5 Simon was 10 of 14 from the line to account for most of his scoring. Simon's brother, Patrick, who verbally committed to Washington State last year as a freshman, scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Lynden (17-8) won it all last year but returned just one starter in Brady Bomber. He scored most of Lynden's points with 18 but was just 6 of 23 from the field. The Bombers were just 8 of 50 from the field as a team. Their 26 points was just three off the record for lowest score in the 2A tournament, which dates back to 1998.
