TOP STORIESRiver Ridge gets best of rival again, beats Tumwater07:49 PM PST on Thursday, March 6, 2008TACOMA, Wash. - Courtney Blume and Jennifer Cole each scored 11 points, and defending champ River Ridge beat league-rival Tumwater 47-42 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A girls state tournament. The Hawks (22-3) beat Tumwater 40-25 in last year's 2A title game and the two teams split during the regular season. River Ridge jumped to a 10-0 lead against the Thunderbirds (21-5) and never trailed. Tumwater got to within 42-41 with 2:30 left in the game but got no closer. Sophie Russell scored eight points to go with seven rebounds and three of the Hawks' 11 steals. River Ridge made five 3-pointers, while Tumwater failed to connect from deep. The Thunderbirds were led by the 14 points and 15 rebounds of Morgan Schwegler. Ashley Andrews scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds but turned the ball over eight times.
