TOP STORIESLakes pulls away in closing minutes, beats Seattle Prep05:48 PM PST on Friday, March 7, 2008SEATTLE - Jermaine and Jamaal Kearse each scored on consecutive possessions late in the fourth quarter to snap a 42-all tie, and Lakes went on to beat Seattle Prep 52-49 in the Class 3A boys semifinals Friday night. Kavario Middleton led the way with 16 points for Lakes (25-1), which will play in the state championship game for the first time in school history on Saturday. Seattle Prep (23-6), which rallied from a 17-point deficit on Thursday to beat Mount Rainier in a quarterfinal game, will play for third place on Saturday. Jordan Hamilton scored 16 points, and Jack Hanley added 14 for Seattle Prep. Lakes went on a 12-1 scoring run to take a 34-23 lead midway through the third quarter. But the Panthers staged another rally, closing to 42-37 heading into the final quarter. Seattle Prep scored the first five points of fourth, tying it at 42-all on Hanley's layup. After the teams exchanged three turnovers, Jermaine Kearse rebounded a miss and converted a three-point play for a 45-42 lead with 3 minutes left. On Lakes' next possession, Jamaal Kearse rebounded another missed and scored for a 47-42 lead. Seattle Prep twice got within two points, but never pulled even or took the lead.
