TOP STORIES2A girls: Pullman turns up the defense late, beats Othello for 4th10:39 PM PST on Saturday, March 8, 2008TACOMA, Wash. - Jessica Thomas scored five points in the final two minutes, and Pullman's defense held Othello's Allison Walker in check in the second half for a 39-35 win and fourth place in the Class 2A girls state tournament on Saturday. Walker, who had 14 first-half points, was held to only six after the intermission. Othello tied the game at 32-all with 5 minutes left and took the lead soon after on a basket by Walker. Thomas gave the lead back to Pullman, 36-35, with two free throws with just over a minute to play. A basket by Thomas pushed the lead to three with 28 seconds to play. A turnover forced the Huskies to foul and Thomas hit one of two free throws to put the game out of reach. Thomas finished with seven points. Anna Albrecht led Pullman with 12 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Walker finished with 20 points and brought down 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies, who were making their first ever state tournament appearance.
