TOP STORIES3A boys: Squalicum pulls away from Seattle Prep for 3rd place win07:06 PM PST on Saturday, March 8, 2008SEATTLE - Patrick Voeut scored 16 points, 11 of them during the fourth quarter, and Squalicum pulled away for a 67-47 win on Saturday over Seattle Prep and third place in the Class 3A boys state tournament. Voeut was one of four players in double figures for the Bellingham school (25-2), which earned its second state trophy and posted the best finish in school history. Keith Stackhouse added 14 points for Squalicum. Nick Stackhouse and Kyle Hooper had 11 apiece. Jordan Hamilton led Seattle Prep (23-7) with 13 points, and Jack Hanley chipped in 12. The Panthers finished sixth and claimed their ninth state trophy, their most recent one being the state championship in 2006. Squalicum was down 20-18 just beyond the midpoint of the second quarter, then closed the half with a 7-2 scoring run to take a 25-22 lead. After Seattle Prep's Patrick Donnelly scored to start the third quarter, the Storm ran off the next six points to take a 31-24 lead and never led by less than three the rest of the way. Squalicum added an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter made it 47-32 and effectively sealed the win. Squalicum shot 63.6 percent during the second half.
