Video: Spotlight: Auburn catcher Kyle Buchanan
Kyle Buchanan has been catching since he was 11, the last four years behind the plate as the Auburn Trojans' starting catcher. Now the three-time All-South Puget Sound League selection takes his place in the Children's Hospital Spotlight.
Kyle has been in the 3A state championship game the last two years for Auburn as the starting catcher. His specialty is defense - he's a big guy at 6 feet, 2 inches and 210 pounds.
His skills have been recognized. Besides his three-time All-South Puget Sound League selection, he was a member of the USA Under-18 national team and helped the Trojans last year to a 25-3 mark and 3A state runner-up finish.
BaseballNorthwest.com has him ranked No.17 overall for class of 2008. He's productive behind the plate and at the plate. He's considered one of the top amateur draft prospects at catcher.
Next year Kyle will take his game east of the mountains, to the Palouse, where he will be a catcher for the Washington State Cougars.
