In high school sports, it helps to have speed, strength, endurance and so on to compete. Kent-Meridian senior Brody Leach may not be the biggest athlete on the fairway, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in heart.

Leach is only 4-feet, 3-inches tall, but he can drive a golf ball 250 yards.

"When I was like 10 or 11, I told my grandpa I wanted to play golf," says Brody. His grandpa bought him a set of clubs and the rest is history.

Brody doesn’t make any excuses for his size, so he’s tried out for just about everything, including football, basketball and soccer. But it’s golf and baseball that he loves the most.

In addition to being Kent-Meridian’s top golfer, he’s been on the varsity baseball team since he was a sophomore. He’s a middle reliever with a nasty knuckleball who can also hit for some power.

If a career in sports doesn’t work out, Brody says he’d like to be a welder.
