Elvis Andrus is not superstitious, so he wasn't looking for some new mojo when he changed his hair style to a faux-hawk.

The last thing the rookie needs is a change to his baseball luck. He had raised his batting average 25 points the last six weeks entering a doubleheader Tuesday.

The shortstop said he has gotten his second wind since slipping to .249 on July 20, but he is also making better, quicker adjustments at the plate. The result is a .317 average (40-for-126) over a 38-game stretch entering the second game at Progressive Field.

"I've been working a lot with [hitting coach] Rudy [Jaramillo], and I'm starting to understand," said Andrus, who doubled in both games to extend his hitting streak to 11. "I'm making adjustments faster. Before, it might have taken me a couple at-bats. Right now, I feel I make the adjustment in the same at-bat."

He has batted second in the order since Michael Young went down last week, a place where he is comfortable from his minor league experiences.

"He can hit the ball to the right side, he can bunt, he can hit and run, and he can steal bags," manager Ron Washington said.
