Frogs' BCS bowl likely to have more impact on 2011 class

12:55 AM CST on Thursday, February 4, 2010

From Staff Reports

Filling the gaps

Losing only 13 seniors, TCU didn't have a lot of immediate needs. The Horned Frogs do lose five safeties and five receivers after the 2010 season. Antonio Graves can play either position. Jonathan Anderson is a highly-rated safety prospect, and four-star recruit Curtis Carter can play receiver.

Maybe later

Coach Gary Patterson said Allen's Matt Brown is probably a "sleeper" in the class. However, the dual-threat QB was considered one of the top recruits for Arizona until he changed his commitment following a coaching change.

Still searching

Offensive line will be a pressing need. The Frogs signed two, Farmersville center Michael Thompson and San Antonio Holmes tackle Nykiren Wellington, but will need more.

Notable

Out of WR Chris Hawkins' 37 catches the last two years, 16 were for touchdowns. ... OL Michael Thompson (6-4, 315) was also his team's field goal kicker. ... Cedar Hill DB Elisha Olabode once returned a missed field goal attempt 108 yards for a touchdown.

Coachspeak

"Most of our recruiting was done before the end of the season. The season we just had [a BCS bowl berth] will probably impact next year's recruiting class more. ... We have gained a lot more national respect when you talk to kids about what they think of TCU." - Gary Patterson
