IRVING – The Dallas Cowboys' injury news didn't get any better Wednesday, with three key offensive players missing practice just four days before the team plays at Kansas City.

Starting receiver Roy Williams, starting center Andre Gurode and backup running back Felix Jones didn't participate. Two other offensive starters – left tackle Flozell Adams (shoulder) and running back Marion Barber (left quadriceps) – fully participated in practice as expected.

Williams, who injured three ribs Sunday at Denver, said he plans to play against the Chiefs and he'd be the one who made the decision.

"It's painful, but it's good," Williams said of his injury. "I'm looking forward to playing in the game. That's the way I'm approaching this week, is to play. I've got to be smart about this thing. If I can go, I'm going to go."

Miles Austin would replace Williams as a starter if Williams can't play, coach Wade Phillips said. That would also mean that undrafted rookie Kevin Ogletree would be active for the first time this season.

Gurode, who has a sprained right knee, would be replaced by Cory Procter if he can't play. Duke Preston also took snaps at center in Wednesday's practice.

"He was limping around a little bit," Phillips said of Gurode, "so we kept him out."

Phillips wouldn't rule Jones out for the Kansas City game, but he's doubtful while still recovering from a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. If Jones is out again, third-string running back Tashard Choice's work load would increase again.

"I'm still working out, still trying to see how things are going," Jones said. "Every day it's getting better."

Haley remembers days with Cowboys fondly: For three years Todd Haley was the Cowboys receivers coach and spent the 2006 season as the passing game coordinator. He also interviewed for the head coach spot when Bill Parcells decided to retire. That job went to Phillips.

Haley subsequently left to be Arizona's offensive coordinator and after two strong years parlayed that into his current post as Kansas City's head coach.

But Haley can't forget how the 2006 season ended with the bobbled field goal snap at Seattle in the playoffs.

"I have great memories of Dallas, and the one memory I have that's not great is the Seattle game, because I truly believed in my heart of hearts that had we kicked that field goal and won the game, we were going to give some people – the Bears specifically – some problems," Haley said. "And who knows how that year would have ended up."

Sensabaugh still doubtful: Phillips wouldn't rule out starting strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh for Sunday's game, though he's doubtful after undergoing surgery Monday to repair his broken right thumb suffered in the Denver game.

Sensabaugh didn't practice Wednesday, and second-year cornerback Alan Ball moved over to work at the safety position. Patrick Watkins will start if Sensabaugh doesn't play.

Cletis Gordon, who signed Tuesday, could be active Sunday to provide depth at defensive back and special teams. But Gordon might not be around long, because Phillips said Wednesday that injured safety Michael Hamlin (wrist) would probably return after the Cowboys' bye week and could play against Atlanta on Oct. 25.

Briefly: Cowboys DE Marcus Spears said Dallas won't overlook winless Kansas City on Sunday. "Well we're 2-2," Spears said, "so we're not the prettiest bride in the church right now either." ... LB Curtis Johnson (hamstring) missed practice Wednesday, and LB Jason Williams (ankle) fully participated, Phillips said. ... The Cowboys announced they have reached an injury settlement with RB Keon Lattimore, releasing him from the reserve/injured list. He was originally injured and waived Sept. 5. ... Because of inclement weather forecast for today, the Cowboys might have to adjust their practice time and work out inside a local high school indoor facility.
