COMMERCE — The Argyle boys and girls won the team titles at the Class 3A Region II track and field meet at Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.
The Argyle girls scored 83 points and had three individuals and a relay qualify for the state meet, while the boys team finished with 78 and had four individuals qualify for the state meet.
The state meet will be June 5-6 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
“We did some good things today, getting that many kids to state,” Argyle boys coach Steve Chancellor said. “We moved into probably the best region in the state this year. That is a big feather in the kids’ hat to win Region II.”
Stephen Curry led the Argyle boys team by winning both the 1,600 in 4:22 and the 3,200 in 9:38. Sam Retzloff won the pole vault at 15-9. Connor Hughey won the 800 in a time of 1:58.
Jake Roberts also advanced to the state meet by finishing second in the 1,600 in 4:27.
Jessica Bonfield won the pole vault with a mark of 11-6. Colbea Harris won the 3,200 in 11:15 and also advanced to state in the 1,600 by finishing second in 5:12.
Morgan Massey was second in the 400 in 58.47 and also advanced to state.
Bonfield, Massey, Dixie Kurrus and Darby Hargroves also advanced in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:02.
“We qualified in everything but one event and scored in all of them,” Argyle girls coach Kathi Olson said. “We started off well early and carried it through to the finals.”
