Top StoriesNon-district football slates coming together for area coaches03:07 PM CST on Thursday, February 4, 2010High school football fans will get a chance to see some of next year's top area recruits during some great non-district matchups to begin the 2010 football season. Some of these matchups were set after the 2010-2012 realignment was announced Monday. Note that these games aren't official yet. Cedar Hill vs. Allen - Zero Week - Two of the top teams from last fall meet in an epic battle to start this next seasons. Allen vs Longview - Coach Tom Westerberg isn't sure when or where this game will be. Last year, Longview defeated Allen in its only regular season loss. Southlake Carroll vs Copperas Cove - Zero Week - Another tantalizing matchup to start the year. Waxahachie vs Denton Guyer - Zero Week - Wow, Guyer's schedule next season could be one of the toughest in the area. Plano West vs. Arlington Martin - Zero Week - It's not an eye-popping matchup but still a good one to see early in the season. DeSoto vs Arlington Bowie - Week One - Also part of the Kirb Herbstreit set of games, this pits two athletic teams that can throw the ball. Denton Guyer vs. Cedar Hill - Week One - Another great matchup set for the Kirk Herbstreit Classic. DeSoto vs Glades Central (Fla.) - Week Two - This Florida power regularly churns out NFL players. Cedar Hill vs. Odessa Permian (to be played in Abilene) - Week Two - The Longhorns won District 7-5A in 2009, and Permian won two games in the state playoffs. Skyline vs St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) - Week One - The Raiders face the 2008 National Champion in this Kirk Herbstreit game. Abilene vs Miramar (Fla.) - Week One - In Abilene, last year's 5A state champion plays last year's Florida 6A state champion. |
